collagen powder is gross (recipe!)

Writer's picture: Teresa T.Teresa T.

We've all seen them, the articles and youtube videos promoting collagen peptides as the next super food. The youtube health and fitness beauty gurus are drinking it straight in coffee, or blending it with spinach and telling us it will make us look like marvel characters.

I've tried it SO many ways. I just cannot get past the taste. "It's unflavored!" brands boast. NO, IT ISN'T.

It may not taste like vanilla, or chicken broth, but it always has a sad unflavored jello taste.

In my attempt to be more health conscious and drink collagen without holding my nose and chugging whatever beverage I ruined that day, I stumbled across this one morning in the kitchen.

Mind you, it uses matcha, so if you don't like the taste of strong green tea (the only thing I found that can cover the jello taste) you will not like this drink.

The nice thing about this super recipe is it is pretty flexible, so if you're keto, sugar free, dairy free, low carb, or a rare normal human, you can adjust it as needed.

Ingredients:

1 tsp Matcha powder

1 serving (scoop) Collagen Peptides

1 1/2 C. Milk or milk alternative (I like the silk almond-coconut blend)

1-2 tbsp Sweetner of choice (erythritol, stevia, sugar, honey, etc)

1) Heat milk or milk alternative on the stove in a saucepan until it is heated through and steaming.

2) Remove from heat and add in your sweetner of choice, the matcha powder* and 1 scoop collagen peptides.

3) Pour mixture immediately into a blender, or blend using a small electric whisk. (Matcha is pretty notorious for clumping in liquid, and this helps distribute and mix it evenly throughout your drink)

* If you have a real matcha setup, blend your matcha with a small amount of hot water before adding it.

Alternatively you don't need to heat this drink if you'd like to have it iced, just mix your matcha and sweetner of choice with a small amount of hot water before combining with the other ingredients.
